Hartville, Wyoming’s first incorporated town, was named for Colonel Verling Hart.
Hartville was settled in the 1870’s by prospectors mining for gold, silver, copper, onyx and iron. By the end of the 19th century, Hartville was a thriving center for mining activity and trading point for the area’s cattle and sheep ranchers.
Hartville has its own “Boot Hill” filled with bodies of men who died “with their boots on” during the days of fast living and even faster guns. |
